In the market for a Barrett

Postby 2011corvette » Wed 04 Jan, 2012 11:02 am

I am new and very interested in buying a Barrett 50 Cal.
I am looking at and considering the Model 99.

I would appreciate any information one would like to share with me about this purchase.

1. Is there a good market to buy used? And where?
2. If buying new, is there a place that has the best price?
3. Are there places to buy a 'package deal' with a scope?
4. Should I buy the rifle first then worry about a scope?

I would appreciate any recommendations or help here.

Thanks

There is a market for used weapons, the internet is a good place to start.
First take a look at the main page of the forum, under THE MARKETPLACE.
There are usually several firearms for sale there.

As for buying new guns, the two main vendors that people speak highly of on here are:

Larry Kneesk @ knesekguns.com

Lin Schyver @ schryvergunsales.com

Both of these dealers offfer package prices with all the accessories. I think it is usually better to buy a package deal, as the price is usually better and you don’t have to worry later on about getting the right accessories.

I hope this answers your questions, but if not, or you have others, don't hesitate to post them.

People think I'm paranoid because I own guns.
If I own guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant"
is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist ".

I can only reply to 2 & 4.

Aeon Arms www.aeonarms.com has pretty good prices, their stock constantly changes. I got my M99 .416 from them, very good experience and price!

If you are not experienced with scopes, I would say get the package deal. Leupold Mark IV 4.5-14x50 is pretty good scope. If you buy the rings and scope separately, you may save $100-150 total. Note that, having the scope installed and zeroed by Barrett is a good thing! I bought separately, as Aeon Arms didn't have the package, and I got Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 and Leupold Mark 4 tactical rings, but this scope is good up to ~1200 yards with M99 .416 because of the 45MOA range on the elevation. If you wanna shoot beyond 1200 yards, the match says get something 70MOA even 100MOA.
