Velocity Comparison of 20" & 27" Barrels

Postby Barrett1 » Thu 22 Apr, 2010 11:06 am

This is for all you tech junkies out there!

*edit*
Thanks to everyone who caught the coefficient error in the chart. Drag function wasn't quite right either, but the techs jumped right on it. This update was made on 4 June 2010.

Interesting. I thought there would be a more dramatic difference in velocity.

*edited by Kevin Fry* The same question was asked in another thread and I responded there.

I was wondering which 300 grain bullet was used for this data, because it seems awfully slow, not even supersonic at 1000 ?
Jbm with the same atmospherics is way quicker with the 300 SMK ?

Kevin

I was looking over your numbers for the 300Gr 27" 338 Lapua Magnum.

My experience doesn't agree with your posted data and when Exbal is used your data seems off as well.

Think about it a 338 Lapua according to your data is starting to go subsonic at 975 yards ? Impacts at 1000 yards with only 805 lbs of energy ?

Ballistic coefficient of 224 seems incorrect.

Sure, blame the guy that posts the data! Thank you all for catching the error. The techs have provided the correct chart this time and it's now updated in the original post up top.

Yeah.... blame it on "the techs". :owned:

I didn't look at the charts until the errors surfaced - so I missed all the drama.... :whip:

Maybe youse guys need to get those techs out more - to shoot the 98Bs??
:cheer:

It was only a typo, no biggie, no drama. Just glad someone caught it.

As an additional data point, my 20" 98B throws the Hornady 250gr BTHPs at 2615fps.

Thanks for your interest, but we've only got data on 20" & 27" barrels. This looks like a job for the community!
